Cold, Water, Splash

You splash
cold water
on your face.

The water rests there
for a moment.

The layers below
rub on the surface;
of your skin;
glistening your face.
Cold.

The shine
stays
until you wipe your face
with the towel –
if the towel is cheap,
it will hurt –
the tension hurts.
Smoothing into tension
is luxury.

A good towel
wipes the surface of your skin;
clean;
wiping out the restlessness,
the desire of the towel fibres
to rub against your skin –
to hold the water drops,
against the skin;
wiping out the dirt
that stays
on your face
after a long day.

You can see it all,
in the mirror.
